BMW has been quietly planning a major overhaul of some of its most popular models in 2018. This will include a new 3 Series and a new X5. The main reason is that the company will introduce its new Cluster Architecture, which is claimed to be lighter, stiffer and more flexible than the platforms it has today. The new architecture is set to form the basis for all car models from the 3 Series upwards and all sports utility vehicles from the X3 upwards. Do not expect radical changes in the design of the X5 though. BMW will keep things fairly familiar after having introduced the new model only in 2013. But expect big interior changes and a major revision of the engines. Our sources say there will be four-, six-and eight-cylinder engines offering power outputs up to a massive 522kW.
