Transporter scoops award before launch
Volkswagen’s new Crafter has already landed one of the top industry awards
A jury of commercial vehicle journalists from 24 European countries has chosen the new Crafter as the International Van of the Year. The announcement was made at the recent IAA commercial vehicles show in Hanover, Germany. The new Crafter, which has many innovations as well as extensive assistance systems, won this coveted award before the vehicle has even been launched. Unlike the previous generation, which was built on the same platform as the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, the new model has been designed and engineered totally in-house by the Volkswagen Group. It will carry a VW badge when it arrives in SA in the first half of 2018, but in some markets it will also be available with a MAN Truck and Bus badge and rumour is that Scania might also be considering putting its name on it.
