Parks Tau calls on councils to keep on fighting e-tolling
Former Joburg mayor Parks Tau says e-tolling hits poor people hard and increases municipal road maintenance costs
PARKS Tau, chairman of the SA Local Government Association (Salga) in Gauteng and former Joburg mayor‚ has urged municipalities to go on fighting e-tolling."I do think that as local authorities we have a responsibility to continue to discuss the impact of e-tolls on our municipalities and residents and continue to urge that we investigate alternatives to the e-tolls system‚" he said.Speaking at the provincial Salga conference in Kempton Park on Thursday, Tau said Salga in Gauteng initiated discussion on reviewing the impact of e-tolls in 2011 before Gauteng Premier David Makhura formed a commission to investigate."Of course, you all know what were outcomes of that commission.
