MTN’s empowerment scheme MTN Zakhele said on Tuesday it has raised R2.32bn via an accelerated book build. MTN Zakhele placed 21-million shares at R110.50 each. On Monday, MTN Zakhele said it was placing shares to pay out those scheme participants who elected to receive cash rather than remain with its replacement empowerment vehicle, MTN Zakhele Futhi. The original MTN Zakhele scheme was unwound ahead of its maturating in November. The empowerment scheme owns about 4% of MTN, Africa’s largest cellphone network.
