A FATAL accident has occurred at Gold Fields’ South Deep mine, the miner said on Monday.A fall-of-ground incident occurred at the mine on Saturday after a seismic event, Gold Fields said in a Sens statement on Monday. One person died in the incident.READ THIS: Government defends safety stoppages after criticism from mines"South Deep management immediately suspended all destress mining activities and notified the Department of Mineral Resources," Gold Fields said.It said the inspection had been delayed until later on Monday, as seismic activity in the area continued.This was the first fatality at South Deep since May 2015, the company said.
