LIBERTY Group was prominent in the life insurance industry wall of shame, according to the latest industry report.Liberty received 533 complaints, of which 35% were found in favour of the complainants, compared with 30% for the industry as a whole, according to the 2015 annual report of the long-term insurance ombudsman.This compares with 27% for Discovery, 33% for Momentum, 30% for Old Mutual and just 18% for Sanlam, though another life office in the group, Sanlam Developing Markets (previously African Life), had a 23% negative score.Old Mutual had the highest complaints at 697, but it is also the largest life insurer in the country.Liberty was also wrapped over the knuckles as it was subjected to 10 second reminders from the ombudsman’s office, as in each case it had not replied to the ombudsman’s request within four weeks.
