Brian Molefe ‘was given chance to respond’
Madonsela said: 'He was a master of diversion today'
Eskom CEO Brian Molefe was not being truthful when he said that he did not get a chance to give his side of the story on the state capture report, former public protector Thuli Madonsela said on Thursday. Molefe, who is implicated in Madonsela’s report for going to extreme lengths to assist the Gupta family, broke down in tears at a briefing on Thursday complaining that his side had not been heard. His tears put a stop to any further questioning on the matter by the media. Molefe said he was never given a chance by the public protector to explain how it came about that Gupta-owned Tegeta Resources was awarded a contract to supply Arnot power station with coal, for which Eskom prepaid R650m. But Madonsela was quoted by The Times newspaper saying: “He was a master of diversion today. By demonising the other he made himself look good by default. That was calculated. Even that dramatic exit when he looked emotional…It was a lovely movie moment. He put on a great show.” A board decision ...
