A Web development company cannot simply serve one purpose: clients have to be part of the journey, not be burdened financially and, overall, be successful with their website. Web developers need to learn their clients’ business processes, and be able to provide sound business expertise to ensure that a return on investment is inevitable.

As part of a world where consumers are impatient and need to be sufficiently impressed before they open their wallets, brands have an average of seven seconds to grab hold of their site visitors’ attention. Once it has that attention, it needs to take customers on a journey through the website, which is where user experience and user interface comes in. Balance is key and the product or service needs to be displayed correctly and easy to navigate to, because if a site visitor is not happy, impressed or intrigued by the brand’s shopfront – website – the customer is going to take his or her business elsewhere.

Appropriate marketing is therefore essential. With so much clutter on the Internet, directing a client to a brand’s website is never a waste of money and with monitoring tools like Google Analytics, brands can easily identify how marketing provides a return on investment and where brands can fine-tune marketing strategies.

The foundation of website marketing can be broken into two segments: brand awareness and direct marketing. Brand awareness pushes a product in a consumer’s subconscious. It takes the average person eight sightings of a brand name to register it, before it becomes a factor in decision-making. Ensuring the brand is seen as many times as possible by consumers before they see the website for the first time makes it more likely that they will buy or use the brand.

Finally, direct marketing involves encouraging potential clients to purchase a product by placing it in front of them with an answer to their needs. Google AdWords, Google Display AdWords, magazine ads and billboards have all been found to be effective in this way.

The big take-out: An effective Web development company guarantees return on investment by understanding the client and building a website that is pleasing to users, creates brand awareness and drives a call to action.
