In Thuli Madonsela’s column, "The Case for a Solidarity Tax" (Protected Spaces, August 19-25), she states that ubuntu means "I am because we are". It does not — it means "human nature, humaneness, good disposition, good moral nature".
Neither is ubuntu, as is so often claimed, a concept unique to Africa.
