With the year not a month old, the first big advertising account is out to pitch. Old Mutual’s R350m business is currently held by FCB, but after the agency won the Barclays Africa account in late 2016 there was an obvious conflict of interest. The FCB contract with Old Mutual expires in a matter of weeks. Old Mutual says the group is in a “closed request for proposal” process. Industry insiders suggest the account could return to Ogilvy SA, which previously held it for over 20 years. The Publicis Group is also said to be in the running.
