PETER BRUCE: Zille dares Maimane again
Her future, and that of her successor, depends on what he does now. He cannot not respond to her
And when she was good she was very very good. Whatever you may have thought about Helen Zille’s tweet last Thursday about the positive things that came with colonialism (I thought it was an appalling political judgment to make) her response in Daily Maverick today is strong. Too late, sure, but a really good read. Zille got herself into trouble on Twitter (for the umpteenth time) while waiting for a flight to Cape Town from Johannesburg after arriving home from a visit to Singapore. The way Singapore has engineered its huge success as a post-colonial society obviously impressed her and she gives a very good account of her trip (and a nicely drawn set of comparative impressions upon her arrival back into the arms of the VIP staff at OR Tambo) in Daily Maverick today.Sadly, she ends on a note that can only deepen the hole she started digging last week with her tweet. Is the DA turning into an ANC-lite, she seems to ask. It is a hell of a question coming from an ex-leader of the party ...
