Parliament’s portfolio committee on communications insists the outcome of the inquiry into the fitness of the SABC board members to hold office is not a foregone conclusion, despite MPs initially backing the motion for the board to be dissolved. This suggests a possibility of the inquiry finding the remaining board members are fit to hold office, although this seems highly unlikely. The portfolio committee is preparing to hold the inquiry later in October and hopes to conclude it before the end of November when Parliament rises. Earlier in October, committee members agreed unanimously that the board should be dissolved after two board members resigned, leaving the 12-member board with only four members and without the nine-member quorum needed to take crucial decisions.
