Parliament’s communications portfolio committee agreed unanimously that the board should be dissolved following the resignation of two board members

A parliamentary inquiry into the fitness of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) board to hold office has been postponed to next week. The inquiry was initially scheduled to take place on Wednesday. "The inquiry, which was scheduled for tomorrow, is postponed in order to finalise notice of inquiry, names of witnesses and other logistics. Details of the new date will be communicated in due course," Parliament said in a statement on Tuesday. The inquiry will be held in terms of the Broadcasting Act. The act provides for a procedure allowing the National Assembly to recommend that the SABC board be dissolved. However, it can make such a recommendation only after an inquiry and on specific grounds, including the inability of the board to discharge its fiduciary duties, non-adherence to the Broadcasting Charter and if they are unable to carry out their duties as contemplated in the act.
