The fight against state capture is heating up as parties argued over the release of former public protector Thuli Madonsela’s report in court on Tuesday. The DA plans to proceed with a protest march against state capture on Wednesday, the day Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan would have appeared in court to face charges of fraud. The Social Justice Coalition, a civil society initiative, on Tuesday demanded in a memorandum that Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane oppose any efforts preventing the release of her predecessor’s report on state capture. President Jacob Zuma, Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Des van Rooyen and Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane have applied to prevent the release of Madonsela’s report. The matter was being heard in the High Court in Pretoria on Tuesday.
