One student from the Tshwane University of Technology died on Thursday night due to injuries sustained when a car collided with three students. Benjamin Phehla, who was a former chairperson of the faculty student council for Information and Communication Technology (ICT)‚ succumbed to injuries he suffered on Thursday during clashes in which students allegedly disrupted traffic. The university said on Friday that unrest broke out on the campus when a group of protesting students demanded to be transported to the Fees Must Fall march at the Union Buildings on Thursday. According to the university, when this was denied, clashes with security guards ensued, resulting in the police intervening to disperse the protesters.
