South African bonds were range-bound late on Thursday as investors continued digesting the implications of Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan’s medium-term budget policy statement, delivered in Parliament on Wednesday. The rand lost more than 15c to the greenback during and following Gordhan’s speech. Analysts said the rand had retreated sharply in the wake of the statement as market players were concerned about the weak South African economic climate.
