Mondays wouldn’t be the same without Justice Malala in The Times. And we wouldn’t be in the third decade of our democracy if something gross wasn’t being committed by government. Today, fortunately, the good guys get a turn to hit back. Later this afternoon social development minister Bathabile Dlamini is due to answer some tough questions about the welfare payments mess she has presided over. Let’s see how she does. That is, if she pitches. She doesn’t pitch for much these days.I have to say I do wonder how Dlamini’s rapidly sinking reputation may be damaging the plans President Jacob Zuma had for her. He got her elected head of the ANC Women’s League so she could position the league behind Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma in the race with Cyril Ramaphosa to succeed Zuma as ANC president in December. The grant payments mess can’t be doing Dlamini-Zuma, or Zuma, any good. Anyway, Malala casts a wonderfully jaundiced eye over the Good Ship Zuma as it sails merrily along. It is hard to think of...
