For two long weeks there was no mention of SA in English-language newspapers in Europe — so what an enormous relief that the first 2017 issue of Time magazine included a high-profile story in which SA was included among the top 10 global worries for the coming year. Admittedly SA did only get onto the list by the skin of its teeth, but the important thing, in a Wildean way, is that we’re on it. As Oscar Wilde said long before the world became media obsessed: "There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about and that is not being talked about."
