The Sunday Times is reporting that a Cape Town city official, Paul Hattingh, faces charges of corruption and fraud related to tenders. The report says: "An extensive investigation by the Hawks, based on evidence amassed by the city, has linked the 42-year-old storekeeper and tender oversight committee members to a web of companies that allegedly milked city coffers over several years."According to the paper, tender irregularities affected everything from the supply of feather dusters to cockroach spray."A paper trail shows that one business run by Hattingh's wife, Simoney, was paid R11.7-million from 2008 to 2012 for items such as disinfectant, liquid hand soap and rat poison on top of ludicrous bills such as R8 208 for a 'hamburger' and R6 840 for a 'Bar One'."Hattingh declined to comment and his wife told the Sunday Times: "I'm going to end this call now. Goodbye."
