One of the big business stories of the past decade was the disruption of the telecommunications industry by big tech players and over-the-top (OTT) services. Could the next decade see the tables turn as mobile network operators start to compete more effectively in the digital space with Google, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft and Netflix?
This time, however, the battlefield won’t be content or value-added services, where telecoms operators have a patchy track record. Instead, the fight moves to big data, an arena that the big tech platforms have dominated because of the masses of data they have collected about the world’s internet users. ..
