UPDATE: Durban has lost the rights to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games. SA Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee president Gideon Sam confirmed this on Monday afternoon. Speaking to TMG Digital from London‚ he said via text message: "The Commonwealth Games Federation is looking for an alternative to Durban." Sam was in the UK city for a meeting of the CGF‚ where Durban's status as host was discussed. Sascoc spent as much as R118-million on the bid according to sports reporter Myron Naicker. A sports department official said that government was waiting for an announcement. - TMG Digital/The Times
