I’m a practicing Catholic and abide by the teachings of the Catholic Church. A particularly important tenet of my faith is the sacrament of forgiveness. To explain, there are seven sacraments in the Catholic Church, sacraments being visible rites seen as signs and channels that lead to the grace of God.One of the more important in that number, the sacrament of healing, includes the anointing of the sick and the concept of forgiveness and penance. It’s apt that forgiveness should fall under healing, because we know that asking for, and receiving forgiveness brings about a very special kind of healing. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission served its purpose well and, while we can’t say everyone walked away feeling heard, it went a long way to bringing some healing of the spirit to many.
