I have a question: Is nobody allowed to say what they think anymore? To proffer an opinion that might go against the grain of the thought police? And I’m not talking racist, unthoughtful, barbed remarks or comments designed to hurt and humiliate. I’m talking viewpoints that might veer off what is — in certain intellectual circles — the narrow path of acceptance.

If you do say something that these strict people don’t like these days, you are not chastised, forgiven, and told to try harder. Instead, the wrath of the entire machine comes down on you. And it’s a public punishment, carried on a host of platforms that include the insidious social media rack...
