Three women at a lunch I was at this week had the table mesmerised as they told of an encounter they’d had with a roadside policeman on their way home from a funeral in the Free State.
The driver had been doing 110km in a 60km zone when they were pulled over. The officer was oblivious to her pleadings and, when one of the women in the car began to talk of badge numbers and lawyers, his attitude turned nasty. He told them to follow him to the nearest small town, informing them to get ready to spend a night in a jail cell...
