Law enforcement officials monitored streets in and around Braamfontein on Wednesday after students took to the streets to protest against a 10pm curfew at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits). Roads had to be closed overnight following clashes between police and students. The student representative council (SRC) took to Twitter with a number of photos of injured people‚ including reweeting its former president Shaeera Kalla: "There is an 18 year old homeless kid who was shot the face. The police were shooting in Braam tonight indiscriminately." He also posted: "We’re trying to document the size of the bullets to see the distance and type of weapons being used to challenge police brutality with Ipid [Independent Police Investigative Directorate]." Giving aid to the injured was medical student Yahya Docrat‚ who posted: "Walking in Braamfontein with hand up‚ just like our parents did during #apartheid #Medics #Wits."
