For 10 years, a friend of mine — let’s call him Riseman Fotane — has been trying to get the trustees and fellow homeowners of the Wewocha block of flats, where he lives, to install a generator.
He considers a generator critical to keeping the elevator, which traverses six floors, running during load-shedding. When he first asked about this a decade ago, the project would have cost R40,000. Today the cost is 10 times more...
