MARC HASENFUSS: When emotions run high
The usually festive Brimstone AGM had a slight edge to proceedings this year
The usually festive Brimstone AGM – replete with stalls displaying the wares of subsidiary companies and investments as well as the usual array of culinary delights — had a slight edge to proceedings this year.
Executive chair and co-founder Fred Robertson fielded some heated inquiries from one irate shareholder around the reappointment of Deloitte as the company auditor, and the abandoned empowerment deal at beverages group Clover. Neither of these were engagements of a fundamental nature (though I reckon, judging by audience reactions, there are a few shareholders quite bitter that the sweet, sweet Clover deal slipped away) but rather an emotional interaction that required Robertson to do his best to placate an upset shareholder.
