I read with sadness and anger that Phumelela Gaming has come to an end.
No doubt the public protector is to blame. She recommended withholding 50% of the 6% levy on punters’ winnings, which amounts to R75m annually. This is a reasonable fee Phumelela rightfully earned for staging horse racing in SA, which would otherwise have been unprofitable and unsustainable...
