Santam’s decision to appeal the Western Cape High Court judgment that it is liable to pay business interruption losses related to the Covid-19 lockdown refers (Editor’s Note, November 26-December 2 (https://www.businesslive.co.za/fm/opinion/editors-note/2020-11-26-rob-rose-santam-digs-in-its-heels/)). It brings to mind the adage: "Insurance companies are happy to lend clients an umbrella when the sun is shining, but are likely to demand it back as soon as it rains."

It’s ironic that Santam’s corporate logo is a yellow umbrella...
