Employment & labour minister Thulas Nxesi boasts about "tightening the screws on employers who fail to comply with employment equity laws" and warns that, to do business with the government, companies will need to produce employment equity certificates.

Three thoughts immediately flash through my mind:

• I’m glad I do not own a business in SA nowadays.

• Given its record of tardy payment, who actually wants to do business with the government?

• President Cyril Ramaphosa is crying out for our unemployment numbers to drop, but his ministers thrive on threatening business at every opportunity.

Someone should establish a data link between the left and the right hands.
