The ugly picture behind the matric pass rate.

What about the kids who left academic schools to go to vocational training colleges to obtain national qualification framework grades in much-needed trades? Why are they never counted?

I taught at a low-income government school for many years. About 40% of the learners who entered grade 8 left by the end of grade 10 to go to the college across the road. I don’t regard that as dropping out at all. - Lushan Turner

Wits vice-chancellor Adam Habib on Jacob Zuma’s free education plan.

Stop saying free education leads to poor quality at university. Among the best universities are in countries with free education.

White collar crime. Insider trading. Greed. Corruption. If you want a lavish lifestyle, you must earn it and not steal it. The thieves have earned a lifestyle in prison, I believe. - Malcolm Benjamin

It’s amazing, when one is wealthy, like Markus Jooste, how long these investigations take. Lock him up because what he did is criminal. - Ampie Louw

One man does not do this on his own. His whole board is responsible and must be held equally accountable. - Fred Koch

The ball is now in Ramaphosa’s court.

I hope people understand that Ramaphosa has to take things slowly — in spite of the impatience and anger of so many. - Rose Jackson
