During eNCA’s election coverage at the IEC’s control centre they interviewed the acting police commissioner, Khomotso Phahlane, for his views on how the election went from a security point of view. After listening to his response, I cannot understand why he was not put in the job right from the beginning instead of Riah Phiyega, and why after nine months in the post he has not been made a permanent appointment. It was obvious that he is a career policeman, confident of his ability but not arrogant, and clearly experienced.Once again it proves there is no substitute for experience and the respect for someone who is well versed in his job. Government agencies need more of his ability and experience.Tony Ball, Durban
