Part of the secret of Santam’s climb to the top of the short-term insurance pile has been its shrewd purchase of liability underwriter Stalker Hutchison Admiral (SHA).
Unlike the highly commoditised field of motor and property insurance, liability is high touch and sold by only a select number of brokers who are comfortable enough to sell lines such as professional indemnity (PI) and its close cousin, directors and officers insurance. It includes more specialist lines in accident and health, commercial crime and, increasingly, cyberinsurance.
