CARMEL RICKARD: Trouble in Seychelles paradise
After the Seychellois government turned its back on his bid for international office, the former tourism & culture minister took the matter to the courts
Assured of the support of his government, Seychellois minister of tourism & culture Alain St Ange decided in 2016 to run for office as secretary-general of the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).
When St Ange met President Danny Faure to discuss strategy, the two agreed that St Ange should resign from his ministerial post. From December 2016, when he stepped down, to the May 2017 elections for the UNWTO position, St Ange worked hard to gain international support for his candidacy.
