Just how serious is President Cyril Ramaphosa about land reform and igniting agricultural activity? The short answer is that he and his government of national unity (GNU) aren’t serious about it. They don’t care at all.

If they did, they would have appointed energetic, ambitious, experienced and qualified political players to the portfolios. You get the feeling that Ramaphosa was playing a private joke when he weighed up who to appoint to these ministries. He must have concluded: “Here are two areas where I want to fail.”..
