With Jacob Zuma on the ropes, the new year ushers in new hope — and much cause to celebrate
It’s not even February and I’m already feeling good about this year. The signs look fantastic for a year in which the economy will begin to improve and we might just get back to our winning ways. The first major sign is already in place: that dastardly Jacob Zuma guy has been kicked out of the corner office at ANC headquarters and, soon enough, he’ll be getting a visit from his great friend Ace Magashule, the new secretary-general of the governing party. Yes, folks. Remember September 2008, when then ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe had to hop into a car in the middle of the night to go to the Union Buildings and inform Thabo Mbeki that it was time to kiss and say goodbye? Mantashe was not keen on the move back then but the party had spoken, so he did the deed.Of course, things are a bit different this time around.
