SIKONATHI MANTSHANTSHA: The parallels between SA and Israelites
Many future generations will pay for the looting of state resources for the benefit of a few lesser, foreign gods
Once upon a time, in the harsh and arid desert, God spoke to his chosen tribe of Israelites: "I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me." But soon after leaving Egypt, the Israelites found themselves lesser gods to bow to, breaking their solemn promise. In SA today, there are many similarities with the Israelites, in how we have mishandled our national affairs, for which many future generations will pay dearly. The imminent credit downgrade to full junk status will bring untold economic calamity. That is the equivalent of the wrath God promised to deliver upon the Israelites for their sins. No sooner had we left our own bondage of colonialism and apartheid behind than we adopted other lesser gods than the guiding light of the freedom charter.
