So says the Bible in the book of Ecclesiastes, which no doubt our esteemed civil servants and political office bearers read and understand fully.So, on January 8, they flooded the swankiest of Soweto’s eateries and drinking holes. They spent millions on food and beverages, boosting the coffers of places such as Sakhumzi Restaurant and the Wine Bar. Photographs of some of the bills showed staggering amounts of money spent on alcohol and food: one totalled more than R123,000 while another showed more than R76,000 having been paid for dinner. The bills fitted the occasion. The ANC had turned 105 years old. These esteemed and moneyed patrons needed to relax and enjoy a great meal after a hard day’s work listening to their president read a statement to them. ...
