The usual metaphors for justice are of a mill, grinding slowly, or a blindfolded woman. Lady Justice, for example, is often represented holding a sword and a set of scales, and wearing a blindfold.

Some of this symbolism goes back thousands of years, traversing the time of the ancient Egyptians and the more recent Roman empire, but the blindfold was introduced only in the 16th century. ..
