BACKSTORY: Sasfin’s Angela Pillay
We question financial director at Sasfin Angela Pillay
What are you reading at the moment?
The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg. We can change our lives positively by adopting positive habits.
What’s your one top tip for doing a deal?
Ask as many questions as you can think of and do your research, but trust your gut.
What was your first job?
My first full-time job was as an articled clerk in an audit firm.
Who is your favourite hero of fiction?
Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz.
What’s the worst airport you’ve been in?
San Francisco airport — it has the longest queues I have been in in my life and the worst service I have ever experienced.
How do you deal with stress? What are your top tips for handling it?
I tend to keep a good sense of humour during stressful times. My top tip for handling stress is to keep focused on the task at hand.
Tell us about a hidden gem in SA that not many people know about.
The Patisserie in the Illovo Post Office Centre in Joburg; it’s the best indulgent breakfast and coffee shop.
Is there such a thing as "enough money", and if so, how much is it?
I don’t think that there is a quantum of money that is enough — it’s a state of mind and an attitude.
What is your biggest indulgence?
Rich, dark chocolate, with a good cappuccino.
What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Having balance; for a working mom there is a constant juggle between wanting to be the best at work and doing the same at home.
Which living person do you most admire?
My daughter. Watching her overcoming obstacles and finding her own way in this world is my daily inspiration.
Which talent would you most like to have?
To be able to sing. I could not hold a note if my life depended on it.
On what occasion do you lie?
I try not to lie, but to get my little one to do a particular task I may resort to some coaxing.
