Stellenbosch is noted for its fine wine estates and great restaurants. Now a new tradition is adding to its reputation.

The Western Cape enclave hosts bimonthly street soirées, where the roads are closed to traffic and the City of Oaks’ wine sellers and restaurants come together, with a heady mix added by live music.

These soirées, which draw in locals and visitors, take place the second and last week of every month.

The next pop-up street party is scheduled for December 14, when visitors and residents will mix on Stellenbosch’s Drostdy Street, sampling top wines from local estates and nibbling on delectable, gourmet treats, while being entertained by local musicians.

This will be followed by events on January 11 and 25. Each will feature wines and food from different cellars and vendors.

R70 gets you a glass to taste as many wines as you wish.
