Canola yields in South Africa have bucked the recent agricultural trend of a second consecutive decline this year — a drop of 28.8% in the third quarter, according to the latest GDP figures, and blamed on drought. In contrast, canola has thrived, despite the effects of El Niño.
“South Africa’s 2024/2025 canola production is forecast to be 294,000t, up 25% year on year,” says Wandile Sihlobo, chief economist of the Agricultural Business Chamber of South Africa. ..
