IT WASN’T that long ago that any local supporters of the green building movement would have been labelled hippies or hipsters.But no longer. Going green is fast becoming the norm. In fact, SA now ranks as one of the most ardent adopters of sustainable building practices in the world.That’s according to the recent World Green Building Trends 2016 report by US-based construction group Dodge Data & Analytics, published with support from the World Green Building Council.Based on the current level of commitment to green projects, the report predicts that SA will be a leader in the global green building market within the next three years.That’s despite sustainable building practices being formally adopted by the SA construction industry only in 2007, when the Green Building Council SA (GBCSA) was founded.
