A THOROUGH discussion about the economy at the recent ANC national executive committee meeting didn’t get much media play, largely because of the controversies surrounding President Jacob Zuma and his relationship with the Gupta family, which reached fever pitch just before that meeting began and drove headlines in its aftermath.Yet the discussion on the economy was perhaps the most constructive and relevant of all the agenda items of that three-day meeting, according to Enoch Godongwana (who chaired it) and several others who contributed to it.It took place on the second day of the NEC meeting and stretched over the entire afternoon, bookended by a PowerPoint presentation by Godongwana and a debate that drew in most of the 80-plus members present.
