Zambia powers up
After crippling blackouts of up to 12 hours a day, Zambia has restored 24-hour-a-day power provision to local users, if not its neighbouring export customers. It does, however, have longer-term energy expansion plans in place

Zambian barbershop owner Moses Kasuma is just one of the small-scale entrepreneurs who were relieved at the government’s announcement late last week that it was suspending load-shedding. When two six-hour power cuts a day were put in place last month, he had to resort to e-bookings for his services.
In a departure from Kasuma’s first-come, first-served system, customers had to message or call him to book an appointment, as unreliable power supply ate into his usual operating hours. ..
