The ANC has gone so far down the National Health Insurance (NHI) rabbit hole that it may never extricate itself. What this means is that as long as the party is in power nationally, universal access to quality health care in South Africa or even improving the existing public health system will be a pipe dream. 

Public health care will remain broken, understaffed and underfunded, yet continue to service 85% of the population. Private health care will remain expensive, overresourced and poorly regulated. ..
