On Thursday, President Cyril Ramaphosa will host his fifth South Africa Investment Conference. It will again draw local captains of industry, finance and investment, with global counterparts, to a carefully choreographed programme of keynote addresses and panel discussions. 

The summit will take place against a global backdrop of declining growth prospects and heightened competition for agile investment resources. The chief domestic variable affecting investment decisions is surely Eskom's spluttering performance, which has helped drive down growth projections for our economy to unacceptable lows. ..
