In this era of rapidly advancing technology, artificial intelligence and cloud computing, one would assume there is no longer room for traditional database software. One of the world's largest enterprise software companies would beg to differ.
Germany's Software AG, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, helped invent the modern software industry, as implied by its very name. Its first major product, a high-performance transactional database management system launched in 1971, is still in use.
