On this, our centenary, I would like to reflect on what I feel are some of the factors that have enabled Anglo American to reach this momentous milestone. I would also like to offer a glimpse of the future of mining - a future we all know will be very different from the past. It is the quality and diversity of our assets that have always been the bedrock of Anglo American's enduring success. Today we have interests in some of the best assets and mineral resources in the world. But those assets haven't fallen into our laps; when he started out, Ernest Oppenheimer as he was then, invested in just a couple of gold mines. What we, as a group, have been successful at is finding, building and acquiring an enviable portfolio of assets. And today, the task is to realise the potential of those assets, market our products to our customers and deliver cash flow and returns to our shareholders, while supporting South Africa.
