Technology is transforming business at such a rapid pace we can be forgiven for thinking all industries and all players in those industries have embraced the hi-tech revolution. However, the reality is that it is only just beginning. As a result, the transformation we will see in the next few years will be dizzying. For example: "Despite retail already appearing to be radically transformed, only one-10th of the retail industry has in fact been transformed," Pat Gelsinger, CEO of cloud computing software giant VMware, said this week. "We still have a long way to go." Gelsinger was addressing 11,000 delegates at the company's annual VMworld conference in Barcelona. He said that while the back offices of most large businesses had long benefited from technology, it was beginning to cross over to the front end. "Technology is leaving the nest," he summed up.
